Budget Kuala Lumpur

I went to Kuala Lumpur for 2 days and 1 night and I managed to pay less than S$ 120 for the whole trip. This is an estimation of my budget: This is quite cheap because we didn't use any taxi, we didn't pay for both Friday night and Snday night accommodation by spending the night in the bus and you can't still find cheaper!!! For example the cheapest bus ticket for Kuala Lumpur is around S$ 30 (return way, we paid S$ 50) but you have to book it early... -bus Singapore to Kuala Lumpur S$ 30 -bus Kuala Lumpur to Singapore 50RM... Food

Something I must not forgot to talk about is food: we didn't pay more than 10RM(2€) wherever we go. We found two really good places: one of them is just around the corner of the Trekkers Lodge Hostel. I got Mee goreng (pasta) and Murtabak (Indian bread with chicken meat and spicy sauce) plus a coke for 10RM there. The other one is on the way to Times Square from Pudurawa Hotel. I got plain naan, honey chicken with rice, curry noodle (pasta) and tea o (tea with milk) for less than 11RM. That's three plates for less than 2€!!! ... [Lire la suite]

Merdeka Square

Merdeka square is a plaza in the center of Kuala Lumpur, just besides Masjid Djamek and above Chinatown. We went there completely randomly and we were quite lucky. Malaysia National day was the day before our arriving in Kuala Lumpur. Therefore the plaza was decorated like for Christmas: lightballs on every main building of the plaza. It was really cool to land there at night just to waste time before leaving Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. The funniest thing was there were a kickboxing match on the plaza and at the same time a tunning... Times square

Times square is the last place forming the Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur. KL tower and Petronas  towers are the two others. Times square is the biggest mall of Southeast Asia and you really have to go there once in your life. This place is really HUGE: 11 floors, an IMAX theatre, a whole roller coaster inside it (with loopings,....). It's as big you were adding 11 Carrefour supermarkets one above another. It's so big that the last floors are not completely full of shops, there is still some empty places... I thought... [Lire la suite]

Chinatown

Chinatown is quite a big part of Kuala Lumpur . There are some Chinese Temples to visit but we only did the main street named Petaling Street. By walking along this street you will find all the cheap you can think about: sunglasses for 15RM, leather wallets, leather belts, cheap pirated DVDs, fake handbags, fake polo Ralf Lauren, jewellery and plenty of stuff for tourists. When you enter this street you have to be ready to hear « my friend my friend – come -  look – cheap price » every two meters. We've been there... [Lire la suite]

Batu Caves

Batu caves are an Indian Holy place but also a very touristy place. It's really famous for its huge golden statue, its stairs and its caves. To get there you can either choose to get a teksi (25RM) or a public bus like the number 11 (2RM). Batu caves are 13km away from Kuala Lumpur so it'll take you about half an hour in bus. Once there the first thing you'll see is the statue: a 40m high statue is quite easy to see. When you get closer to it you discover the stairs: 272 stairs going straight to huge caves. It's a really... [Lire la suite]

KL tower

KL tower is a telecommunication tower in Kuala Lumpur. It's THE place not to miss because you can go there at night and see the whole city of Singapore at night. The main advantage of it is that you are staying at 288m high hence much more higher than the Petronas towers' Skybridge. We went up there just before the sunset, watched it and waited for a complete dark night. This is another advantage of the KL tower: you can stay as long as you want until 10pm. You just need to pay 20RM and it really worths it. During the day... [Lire la suite]

Lakegardens

Lakegardens is a Malaysian National Garden located further on the west of Negara Mosque. Actually we walked from the Mosque to one part of the garden: Bird Garden. It took us someting like 20min. Bird garden is the world's largest covered bird park. It seemed to be an insteresting place especially when you are close to it and you realize that it's a huge place with a net above it. But once you get really close to it you discover that you have to pay 30RM if you want to see birds such as Toucans and Pirrots. We didn't enter... [Lire la suite]

Masjid Negara

Negara Mosque or "Masjid" in arab is one of the biggest mosque in Malaysia. It is close to Lakegardens in the west part of Kuala Lumpur. We went there with Hisham, my roommate, who is Muslim and arrived during the worship hours. So Hisham went in to pray, and us too.... but we stayed outside the praying room. Thanks to a really kind woman we were allowed to seat on benches outside the praying room, just besides some kind of pools with fountains. We (Fred and me) stayed there, sleeping on a bench, hearing nothing but... [Lire la suite]
