Day 5: first day in Ubud

To go to Ubud from Nusa Lenbongan you have to go back to Sanur (we took the public boat at 8am: 45 000Rp), and then a cab for an 1 hour (100 000Rp).

Nusa Lenbongan was really nice, but there is not that much to do except chilling (which is good because the beaches are really nice and nobody is there). However you have to opportunity to get close to them, see their life like picking seaweed in the morning (dozens of people were doing it when we left because it was low tide).

Ubud on the other hand is full of activities: it's the cultural center of Bali for arts: the city is full of art galleries, you have shops selling paintings at every corner, and most of all it's surrounded by dozens of small handicraft villages were people do stone carving, wood carving, paintings. Finally Ubud is located in the center of Bali hence rice terrases are everywhere and it takes 5min in motorbike to enjoy beautiful sceneries.

That was all the plans I had in my mind we arrived, the thing is that my mother realized that the left her PASSPORT in the cab that went back to Ubud. This could have been the end of uur vacations: no passport means you have to go back to Denpasar, declare it to the police and spend a few days in the embassy to get a temporary one. Happily we found it when we came back to Sanur and I don't know if it's luck or not but the cab driver that brought us there was also runnning a Gueshouse in Ubud and organizing trekking around Ubud.

I'll strongly recommend to anybody going to Ubud to spend time at 3 Dewi's Guesthouse. The double rooms are wide, clean, the fresh breskfast (fruit salal, toasts, and tea/coffee) every morning is a true pleasure, and it's located in the middle of a rice paddy field. This place is runned by family and we discovered the family's "enterprise" when we bargained for a big package: 2 double rooms for 3 days + 3 motorbikes for 3 days (this business is runned by his cousin)+ a trek to Mt Batur to see the sunrise for 3 persons for less than 2 millions Rp. Double rooms are 100 000 Rp per night and it's really a great deal.

We ended the afternoon (as you maybe notice it, you can do plenty of things in a single afternoon..) visiting the Art Museum Puri Lukisan which is nice (even if I think that Museum Arma was better). We had dinner at Nomad: which I'll also recommend because you can order a set of 12 tapas containing 12 different Balinese foof specialities (murtabak, spring rolls, chicken satay, beef satay, tuna steak, etc) that will may you discover 12 differents meals in a single meal.

And obviously because the guy we randomly met was "the man of Ubud" we went (because he told us about it) to a Kecak dance were he was singing attended with dozens of other male singers and were his daughter was dancing. I'll put some videos/pictures of it as soon as I can. The show ended with a firedance in which a guy walked on coconut embers.
